Week 3 – 28th December 2011 to 3rd January 2012
Nothing untoward happened today… Tuppence is growing at an alarming rate, and remaining as cheeky and vocal. He teases Ezra unmercifully, chewing his ears, walking all over him and generally being a nuisance. Periodically I call “timeout” just to give Ezra a break (not that I think he minds… he is a very tolerant natured dog).
With all the rain, the pool is up the gunnels, and as all the other dogs have been drinking from the pool when it was at the normal water height, Tuppence has now found that he too can savour this water. (I have a salt water pool). I must admit, I watch in fear and trepidation just in case he topples over… so far so good.
I think I have found the hiding place…. Under a chair in the lounge, right to the back, so unless you are on your hands and knees, which I do not normally do, he is completely hidden if doing a cursory glance/look.
As I mentioned previously, he knows that his paws make good gardening tools. However, Ezra really showed him what they were for and helped him dig a BIG hole in the grass (I have just had the lawn co. treat with fertiliser, lawn dressing etc so I am not amused). Having caught Tuppence trying to make it bigger and perhaps visit Auntie Nadine in Australia, (Nadine used to work at SAGA), I filled it with the entire collected dog pooh and having left it open for a day covered it with grass cuttings. (I hope it will work).
Thursday morning, I decided to give Ezra a treat by taking him for a walk at Brightwater Commons. This gave Tuppence time to play on his own and not terrorise/tease Ezra. (Tuppence is really going to miss his mate when he goes back on Monday… not sure how I am going to handle this as I am definitely not getting on all fours and behaving like a dog….roll on the next week when Thando gets back from Natal).
Tuppence has found that Ezra’s tail which is really feathery is a good thing to pull and tug at. Ezra, not a malice in the world just took it in his stride, and just rolled over and distracted him… not a growl, bark or anything…amazing. If someone got hold of my hair like that I think I would have screamed!!!!
Now the naughty side is coming out of Tuppence… so far he has found that if he pulls a snag in the carpet it will unravel, two pairs of oven gloves (admittedly they were old) have been shredded and all the filling strewn around the garden to make it look as though it has been snowing, and umpteen polystyrene dishes used for tortoise food have been shredded. Not to mention the two hand towels that have now been relegated to floor cloths…. And he is only 10 weeks old… my hair will be greyer before the period that he is with me is out! (Someone suggested that I should upgrade his value…. Ten pence!)
Last night I went out to neighbours for New Years Eve, leaving Tuppence in the kitchen with his toys and the other dogs outside. I got home (after about 6 hours!) thinking I would have to clean the kitchen floor… but no, not a puddle or a pooh in sight… so a dash to open doors etc and out into the night (thank heavens it had stopped raining) so that he could do “busy”… I was so proud of him.
I am not sure whether Ezra or Tuppence are tired or whether it is just that today is a “chill out” day, but both are very subdued.. Perhaps it is the calm before the storm and all hell will be let loose later! No storm in the playing field, only Tuppence obviously did not learn from his first dunking that the pool is not for him, not yet anyway… he fell in playing with his mate, being helped out like a drowned rat! (Luckily we were around to help him out of the water… his little legs can’t pull himself out yet).
Ezra has now gone back to kennels to continue his training, but Xara has taken on the role of playing “of sorts”… just hope that she and Sammy are not going to come to blows.
