24 November
It is exactly a month since Vanilla arrived at my home and I recall how excited I was as I wondered what her temperament would be like –
Would we hit it off from the outset, or would there be some bonding obstacles?
Well, as I recall vividly she sat down quietly in front of my couch despite her initial excitement and allowed me to pat her. These pats were, of course, interspersed with her getting up to stake out her new surroundings with a sniff or two.
How the month has flown by and how special our bond has become. To think that as we walk to the chemist, the club, Woolies, the bank we are confident and relaxed, like a unit who has seen many Octobers together …
When we walk, I feel just like everyone else going about their business. I melt into the swarming crowds, though also stand out, as I walk with my four foot guide…
During the past month there was of course, a Vanilla-flavoured surprise around each corner, like moments of becoming biblical by taking up her bed and walking with it, or lying on her back, her sheepskin bed caught in her paws and Vanilla peaking mischievously from behind it.
Tonight, she meets my relatives for the first time and who knows what surprises about her will be revealed?
Here’s to Vanilla essence and many a happy October together!
