S A Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind hosted their second Gala Dinner in recognition of World Sight Day on Saturday, 15 October at Kelvin Grove. The founders of World Sight Day, Lions International joined forces with the Association as one of the headline sponsors together with 476 Charitable Trust.
Premier Helen Zille wore a blindfold and was lead onto stage by a Guide Dog. She welcomed the guests and spoke about how daunting it was to navigate your route and remember your speech without the aid of sight.

Guests enjoyed a delicious three course meal which was accompanied by the divine Miss Molly range of wines and bubbly from Môreson Wine Farm (wine sponsor for the event). There was great entertainment by vocalists Michelle Botha and Jacques Coetzee along with background entertainment by Jazz Between Friends. Guest speaker, Hendri Herbst who has just come back from the Paralympics in Rio, gave an emotional account of his life story and swimming career.
There was an encore of applause when the final pledged amount was announced. The pledged support raised enough funds for six Guide Dogs for the Cape Town region.
