Graduating Guide and Service Dogs
SA Guide-Dogs first Graduation ceremony for 2013 took place on Sunday the 26 May at the Gladys Evans Training Centre in Gauteng. True to form we were overwhelmed by the support to the event. Ten students graduated with their dogs and received their harnesses and service dog jacketall to the rapturous applause of a fully packed out Hall.
Talks from the various departments helped showcase the varied work of Guide-Dogs including the College of Orientation and Mobility and a moving address by Guide Dog Owner Melette Els gave insight into how a guide dog has positively impacted a person’s life.
Guests were treated to a scrumptious tea and taken on tours of the facilities. One of the important aspects of the Graduation Ceremony is to also acknowledge the tremendous support Guide-Dogs receives from Individuals, Corporates, Service Clubs and Schools -many of whom have held special events or collections and raised funds to benefit the Association.
