COM Training – Diploma in O&M

The College of Orientation and Mobility trains learners who complete a national diploma in Orientation and Mobility (SETA Accredited). The majority of these learners are fully sighted but learners with any kind of disability, including visual impairment, can be considered for the training programme provided that they comply with the requirements of an O&M Practitioner.

They then return to their service organisations and/or communities across South Africa, where they effectively train people who are blind and visually impaired in the skills of daily living and mobility, using a white cane.

One trained Orientation and Mobility practitioner can effectively train on average 40 blind people per annum.
