Dear Diary
It is hard to imagine that the much needed holiday is a thing of the past and that it is already my second day back at work. As for the time with Vanilla, it has been exactly 2 months and 14 days that she is part of my life.
This morning Vanilla or as she is affectionately known at home “Miss Essence”, did a fine job leading me to work, that is, after a tug to the left to ask if we were going to visit Mad Hatters, or cross the road to visit the pharmacist and the grocery store. After giving the command for her to find my place of work she was fine and calmly led me there.
Time flies when you are having fun getting to know all about a new guide-dog. Vanilla is similar, yet very different to my second dog.
Her latest trick is to come for a cuddle on the bean bag when I lie back watching television. Sometimes, I even become the bean bag.
She also makes me a participant in a game of fetch-and-throw. I have to throw the ball, or rubber ring with bells and balls as far as possible and she runs off to fetch it and the whole process starts over again: throw and fetch; throw and fetch.
When I am sad, she sits with me and gives me a lick on the hand or foot.
One of the key differences between her and Suki is that she doesn’t share an affinity for opening presents, though she certainly enjoyed her Christmas treats!
