Here is the story of Emma, a nine year old girl from Cape Town who read our "Sponsor a Puppy" call below and set out to help raise funds for a guide dog! Such stories inspire us all here at the SA Guide - Dogs Assocaition to continue our work in training these amazing animals that so graciously serve the blind and visually impaired citizens of South Africa.....
Emma is 9 years old and goes to Kenridge Primary School in Durbanville. One of her assignments in the first term was to talk about helpful animals. Emma of course chose her favourite animal, dogs. While we were doing research on Guide dogs we came across the Puppy Campaign for 2010 and we thought, Hey we can do that! With permission from her teacher and the help of her best friend Alexandra she went to all the classes in Grade 4 and a few in Grade 5 and took orders for Valentines biscuits and chocolates. She also handed out the picture from the website talking about the Puppy Campaign. The response was unbelievable and the orders came flooding in. On her own she managed to get hundreds of orders. This meant many hours of baking and melting and making packets of biscuits and choccies at home for Mum, Gran and Dad. On the Thursday and Friday before Valentines Day she handed out the packets and collected R2500! We were all so proud of her achievement.

When her Great Gran, Maria, heard about what she was doing she wanted to add to it and spread the word to her friends. She was celebrating her 95th birthday and instead of presents asked that her many friends rather contribute to this worthy cause. They collected another R500.
So together Emma and Maria donated R3000 to help raise a Puppy become a helpful Guide Dog for someone in need.
